In Part 1 of our Article Marketing tutorial, I broke down the essential formula for your article and the various directories available for article submission such as Ezine, Go Articles and Squidoo.
In Part 2 of our Article Marketing series, I shared the various services you can use to make article submission a bit less clumsy and more efficient as well as how to get the most mileage out of a well written article by spinning and generating backlinks.
Today, in our third and final part of our article marketing series we will tackle keyword research and keyword density.
You could say I am doing this a bit backwards considering this is the truly the first step in any article marketing campaign, but I wanted to share the other details first so you understand why keyword research and density are so important.
First, let’s define keyword for those unfamiliar with the term. It’s simple really, a keyword is a search term or what people are typing into Google, Yahoo, MSN etc to find an answer to their question or problem. You can write the most amazing article in world, but if you are not writing about a keyword(s) people are looking for then your article will never be read.
So how do you find these keywords? Again, very simple. Just goggle keyword research tools and you will find a list of various online tools to help you with your keyword research. What you are looking for are terms that are not only in the 200+ searches per day range but also with fairly low competition so you have a chance of ranking on the first page of google for that keyword or phrase.
It is possible (if you find the right keyword or phrases) to see your Ezine article rank on the first page of google within days of publishing. But, it is not just about targeting the right keyword, it is also about having the proper amount of keyword density in the body of the article.
What is the proper keyword density?
Keyword density means using the targeted keyword in a certain manner and a certain number of times in the article. The rules breakdown like this:
You want to include the keyword or variations (i.e. “schooling”, “schools”, “schooled” work fine with the primary keyword “school”) throughout the article body – 1.5%-3% ‘keyword density’ is considered ideal. That comes out to approximately 6 times for a 300 word article.
But remember, you are writing these articles for people to read and ultimately click on the link or links in your resource box.If the article does not offer real value and read well then you are just wasting your time.
Use this formula but always write your articles for people not for search engines.
