Network marketing and Web 2.0 are all the buzz right now. There are a number of home based business opportunities, big and small, for the budding entrepreneur to dive into. But although success is lying right in front of them, an average 90% of those individuals will not last more than a few months before throwing in the proverbial towel.
Why is this number so high?
With all the marketing resources available both online and off, why are so many people left frustrated and disappointed?
How do all of these network marketing and multi-level marketing companies survive when so many of their distributors are dropping out?
Let’s begin with the first question. Over 90% of network marketers fail for one, maybe two, reasons. They are not truly entrepreneurs to begin with or they were not given the proper direction and guidance by their sponsor.
The definition of an entrepreneur as found in Webster’s Dictionary is as follows: “a person who organizes and manages a business undertaking, assuming the risk for the sake of profit.” So what you need to ask yourself is “Do I really have what is takes?”.
Do you consider yourself a risk taker with a drive to succeed no matter what the price? Do you have the time, focus and finances to fund your venture? Are you business minded with an ability keep you emotions out of your own way?
If you answered no to any of these questions than this may not be for you.
Now if you answered yes to these questions and still find yourself struggling to make it in network marketing, then you are going about it the wrong way.
The days of bugging your friends, family and co-workers are long gone. Listening to your sponsor make cold calls or calling leads yourself are the thing of the past. Any sponsor /mentor that gives his business partners this advice does not know what he is doing.
A true mentor will work with his business partners to develop the individual and help them find their unique business qualities and assist in niche development. A true mentor will also have a simple and duplicable system for his new partners to plug into while they get their own system in place. If your sponsor is not doing this for you, then you need to find one who will.
So how do these network marketing companies seem to be thriving while so many of their affiliates and distributors are dropping like flies? They actually profit from this sort of scenario.
Most network marketing companies require a minimum purchase from its new members in order to qualify for their compensation plan. This where they make their money. It doesn’t matter to them if you succeed or not, because there a number of other prospects right behind you. So they win no matter what.
That is why your direct sponsor is so important, they hold the key to your success. At best, the company will provide a cookie cutter website and some banner advertisement tools for you to pump even more money into. All of these tools are promoting the business and product, not you as an individual and what you have to offer to your future business partners.
The true key to network marketing success lies within you and what you have to offer your team. Yes, products and compensation plan are important, but these are simply the vehicles for your success. You and your team are the “gas” or “fuel” for your success.
I leave you with one more piece of advice: Educate yourself.
Work on you leadership skills, internet marketing skills, research what other successful network marketers are doing and figure out how to do the same. Knowledge and perseverance are the two most important attributes of an entrepreneur. If you truly want to find success in internet network marketing, start by working on yourself and success will come your way.

Hi Jess,
Many years ago I was once an unsuccessful Amway Distributer. After that undertaking I tried to assess the reasons for my failure in that business.
Our upline taught us to invite people to meetings without revealing that it was about the Amway business, even if you had to lie if they said “is this am Amway meeting”.
I didn’t like to deceive people into attending my meetings. I also had a bigger problem that kept me from giving it my full attention.
I had a good job and I was very good at what I did and I was very loyal to my company.
The first thing I discovered after I became involved with Amway wss that I was not capabile of serving two masters.
I learned, there was only one, 100% of me and if I gave any portion of the 100% to one master I only had the remainder left for the other. As hard as I tried I could not give 100% of my effort to my company and have any quality effort left for Amway.
I am now retired and I find that I am not satisfied with myself and I need something to strive for but I don’t “a go to work job”. I want to have more control of my time and I want to make some money rather than continue to drain my Retirement IRA.
I have gone through the talking process with the Angel Stevens group and have decided that I don’t think I is very smart to get involved with a group that has so many bad reviews and puffs of smoke in their answers to my questions.
Plese give me your best guidance, don’t give me puffs of smoke.
I don’t mind working and I don’t have any problem paying for quality and believable advise that tracks to a good Marketing Plan
I hope you have time to reply.
Dan

You story is a common one in the MLM world. Its funny that it is called Network or Multi Level MARKETING, yet the companies have very poor marketing plans.
I am NOT about smoke and mirrors. In fact, just the opposite. I am honest to the point that end up talking many people out of this industry.
